In a novel I'm reading (The Lost Girls of Devon by In a novel I'm reading (The Lost Girls of Devon by Barbara O'Neal), one character says to another, "You aren't stuck. You're just resting between things."
Ooh, that's good, I thought, as I highlighted the phrase on my Kindle the other night. I can relate to that feeling of being stuck, like things aren't moving forward, like I don't have any options... But there are times when a rest is exactly what we need. And there are times when this kind of shift in perspective simply helps us move out of that stuck feeling, even if our circumstances haven’t changed a single bit.
I can imagine plenty of reasons one might be feeling stuck these days, so I wanted to share this idea with you in case it resonates: You aren't stuck. You're just resting between things.
This also reminds me of my conversation with Erin Elizabeth Wells of @chosencourse for the podcast last year. On the surface, we talked a lot about goals and productivity, but it went much deeper as we explored how to handle things that take longer to achieve than we might like, and how to feel like we're still moving forward. If you need to improve your approach to your daily to-do list or some reassurance as you tackle a big project like building your Nomadtopia, check out Episode 178 of Nomadtopia Radio wherever you get your podcasts.

Grief can crop up in interesting ways for nomads a Grief can crop up in interesting ways for nomads and expats. We might sometimes feel grief not just for the more conventional life we left behind but even for the other forms of Nomadtopia we haven't or won't experience. We can't follow all the paths at once, so if we choose RV life instead of the sailing life we might feel some grief when we see people living the latter.
But as Christine Job of @flourishforeign and I talked about on Nomadtopia Radio, that grief doesn't mean we've made the wrong decision; it's possible to hold both grief and joy at the same time. And it also doesn't mean that we can't follow another path at another point in life.
Does this resonate with you? If this is something you've thought about or struggled with, look for Episode 191 of Nomadtopia Radio wherever you get your podcasts.

You never know when a new place might take your br You never know when a new place might take your breath away. And sometimes, it’s the most unlikely destinations that produce the most profound impacts in our lives. As you’ll hear today, even a spur-of-the-moment trip can create a lifelong passion for a place.
The founder of @expatincroatia, Sara Dyson, shares her story of moving to and falling in love with Croatia, even though it wasn’t her first choice of destination. She explains some of the bureaucratic and logistical challenges of moving to a different country, and we talk about the impact digital nomads and expats can have on a place and how to be sensitive to these issues.

If you're planning a move abroad, you probably hav If you're planning a move abroad, you probably have a million things on your to-do list (or even worse, floating around in your head!). You might also have a nagging feeling that you're forgetting something you should take care of but don't know what it is.
I've seen it happen with clients and friends: They get so focused on the piece that's most complicated or they're most worried about (applying for temporary residency, sorting out health insurance...) and at the last minute find themselves scrambling to deal with things they'd forgotten about or ignored. Maybe they hadn't thought about how they'd access their money abroad, or just assumed they'd set up Google Voice eventually but didn't realize it needed to be done before they left the States.
Are you worried you're forgetting something or just don't know about everything you should have on your radar? Don't worry—I've got your back! I made a checklist that maps out the key things to do or decide about in 10 different areas so you can make sure you’ve got all the essentials covered.

Deciding to move to Argentina was a pivotal moment Deciding to move to Argentina was a pivotal moment in my life—it was my first experience living abroad and I made great friends right off the bat, enjoyed everything Buenos Aires had to offer, bought a place there, fell in love with a local, and ended up living there full-time for five years. Hard to imagine where my life would be today if I hadn't boarded that plane from Philly!
(Incidentally, I just noticed that these are the same suitcases we just used for our family trip to Buenos Aires this month. And sadly, I seem to have misplaced that amazing purple corduroy jacket I'm carrying, which I had made in Hoi An, Vietnam, in 2005 on my round-the-world trip.)

It sounds so obvious when I spell it out like this It sounds so obvious when I spell it out like this! Yep, major life changes can completely shift what your ideal lifestyle looks like. And it only took me three years of motherhood to figure this out 🤣
While wandering in our old neighborhood in Buenos Aires during our recent trip there, I shared with a friend some of the challenges we've been having to figure out what's next for our Nomadtopia. (Funny how something we have no problem helping others with can be so difficult for us personally, isn't it?)
It's more clear to me than ever that when there's some kind of big shift in your life it really throws things into question, and your old approaches to dreaming, scheming, and planning (and just about everything else, really) might not work like they used to. Now, to find a new approach!
